so I planted the first 40' row of beans. Now the lying liar lying through his lying liar hole weatherman, says we only have a 40% chance of rain. Still have lots of soil moisture, and the soil temps are up, however, a 1/4 inch of rain would have been nice to have. I'll be planting the rest of the rows in 2 week intervals this month. Then plant again as these are harvested. Cukes this weekend. Can't wait for them hot and garlicky dills to get made. Couple of hot peppers with vertical slits per jar and 3 or 4 cloves of garlic per jar and them pickles are some kinda good!
that was a mouthful of lying commentary FBG. I was trying to read it outloud but I kept laughing and messing it up.
FBG, I don't trust weathermen, I trust our cats and the cows in the field across from us. Both are reliable, available for consultation when needed, and easier on the eye, too! Forty feet of green beans? Amazing!
carolyn, if I can get it from my phone to the computer,I'll post a picture of a pattern one of the girls in dispatch made up for me Miss Jane, going by past harvests and doing a bit of ciphering in my head, I figure that getting 5 40' rows of beans in will give us 80 to 100 quarts of canned beans. I'll go through 30-35 myself over the winter, that boy eats enough for 2 or 3. Just something I/we won't have to spend money on. On the plus side, there'll be some of 'em eat fresh too.
Ooo fatbaldguy...I hope to try your pickle recipe. I am growing green beans also...on a much smaller scale though, in containers.
40 ft of green beans sounds great! Can't wait to get the garden in! I probably wont have to make pickles for a few years as I made lots last year
