I started my annual wood cutting routine. I cut down a 60' Black Locust tree yesterday that had been dead for about a year. Today I will get the log splitter running and start splitting wood. It's 42 deg. here so I have the electric heat on for a while.
Time goes by fast when you are having fun. I have enough wood left over from last year to last me until about Jan. so what I am cutting now will be for the early spring.
This is our first year with a woodstove so I have no idea how much we will burn. How long would a bush cord last for you Capt?
Goodness, winter prep already and having to turn on the heat in the house. I was just thinking how nice it is that the AC only has to be used between noon and 6a.m. this month.
On a normal winter, I usually burn about 2 cord. I like to have about 4 cord put up, cause you never know. With this new wood shed, it looks like it will hold about 7 cord.
With all the weeds and grass mosquitos and grasshoppers this year I'm really looking forward to winter. I never have before but Texas is out of its mind this year.Who ever heard of a wet Texas summer?
We have a wood stove, an oil burner and electric ovens. We are getting heat exchangers in. Two of them. One on each floor. Hopefully, this winter I'll be warm even when it's really cold outside. Wood is best, thoug. It smells nice and gives good warmth.
I heat almost entirely with wood. I figure my heat bill runs about $50 oer winter. That's for gas and oil for the tractor, saw and wood splitter. Wood heats you 3 times, once when you cut it, once when you split it and once when you burn it! My wood is actually free, it's from dead trees on my property.
