There is a small town about 60 miles southeast of us, and one of the homeowners has a pet kangaroo, Izzy. A new outdoor cage was built for Izzy, and Izzy escaped somehow. For three days kangaroo sightings were reported by residents, a local vet posted on his website that Izzy was a pet and tame--don't shoot! Finally a resident reported Izzy in the backyard and Izzy's parents came and called to him. He came hopping over, so happy to see a familiar face--Mommy! So, Izzy is home and safe and has promised not to explore the neighboring environs again. Only in Texas would a kangaroo be of such interest to so many that its adventures would be reported on three nights of the local news. You gotta love Texas!
I saw the story on the news a couple of evenings ago but didn't hear where it happened. I like the photo new the Dallas Morning News http://www.dallasnews.com/news/local-news/20150306-pet-kangaroo-on-the-loose-in-central-texas.ece I never would have thought of Kangaroos as being pets but it looks like Izzy is a loved one.
Lovely story MG. I've never really heard of a pet kangaroo before. Do you know the backstory about how they got him in the first place?
That's so funny! I assume a kangaroo would eat the same things as a deer and not be a welcome garden visitor? Glad it ended well
I have no idea how the couple acquired Izzy, but there are wild animal parks all over Texas, and some people even have pet tigers! Kangaroos eat vegetation, so I'd imagine Izzy and a garden wouldn't be compatible. Personally, I'd rather have the garden!
Only in Texas! I think the weather and food may bet more friendly to exotic animals than most other states but I don't know about having one as a pet. But...Not in my yard!
