Starting with a tiny Blanketflower bloom. The plant has remained green all winter and the other day I found this bloom opening up. Burgundy Blanketflower ( photo / image / picture from toni's Garden ) I am getting more Dianthus this spring/summer. I have one in the backyard that made it through the summer, this one I planted in October. Dianthus ( photo / image / picture from toni's Garden ) The Fennel suffered through the heat of summer but when the weather started cooling off, it really came to life. Hope the butterflies find it well and healthy this spring....they are why I planted it in the first place. Fennel ( photo / image / picture from toni's Garden ) I am amazed at this Foxglove. It did bloom last fall, has stayed green and the second flower stem has been there since about Halloween. Foxglove ( photo / image / picture from toni's Garden ) The Chater's Double Hollyhocks are looking good, got them planted in Sept. Chater's Double Hollyhock ( photo / image / picture from toni's Garden ) The Malva sylvestris also planted in Sept. There are three around the yard and they all look a bright, healthy green and adding leaves constantly. Malva sylvestris ( photo / image / picture from toni's Garden ) I am definite getting more Pansies next fall!! Several got beat to death in a heavy rain a month or so back but these two are beauties. It's never gotten as tall as advertised though. Salvia 'East Friesland' ( photo / image / picture from toni's Garden ) And I will certainly have to get more of the Scabiosa, this is Butterfly Blue but I want to add more colors next summer. It loves the cooler temps almost as much as I do. Scabiosa ( photo / image / picture from toni's Garden )
Well I can honestly say that I don't have anywhere near the amount of colour that you have Toni. It's good to know that someone has so much thriving and flowering in their garden at this time of year. I do have spring bulbs beginning to pop up in the garden but they won't show blooms for a while yet.
Eileen, while I was out taking the photos I noticed that the Crocus I planted last fall are popping up. Too short to easily see hidden among the Henbit but I will get photos as soon as they start blooming.
That's why I love to be here. My eyes want to see more green growth outside. I can go into my greenhouse to see green but it's just not the same.My garden is all brown dirt and twigs. :'( I am so happy to see all your flowers and plants. Barb in Pa.
Wow Toni... green stuff with colors outdoors in January? :-D I have no blooms... but then again, I didn't do any fall planting. Next year I'm definitely going to add some stuff so I can have color in January too!
It is a topsy turvy season. It's great to have color in January. It sounds like spring will come early. A good pick-me-up for the winter. Jerry
Eyecandy! Thanks for sharing your blooms, toni. I was actually thinking that I hated you for showing blooms in January, but then I remembered your summer and decided you deserve them. Your Salvia "East Friesland" ought to be renamed... I don't know what Sjoerd will think about the "East"-bit. *shivers*
