I took a stroll through the botanic gardens near me last fall. They have a huge variety of Japanese maple trees. I collected quite a few seeds that had fallen. I put 2-4 each in baggie sandwich bags with some moist potting soil and put them in the bottom of my refrigerator for 3 months. After the 3months, four actually sprouted , so I carefully placed each one in its own small terracotta pot so that about 1.5" is above ground. I keep the soil (more potting mix w/a little extra sphagnum peat moss added)moist and in a window that gets about 2 hrs direct sun and bright indirect light most of the day. Can anyone advise as to the next course of action. Is there something I'm not doing that I should. Am I doing something that I should not? I know growing Japanese maples from seedling can be difficult, so anyone with knowledge of growing Japanese maples from parent seeds would ve very helpful. Thanks in advance!
I wish I could grow one, but Japanene Maples don't do well down here so I have no advice for you. But I am looking forward to your progress reports and pictures of your new babies.
What is the right technique? I would love to try one in east Texas. Do you have them and what part of the country/world do you live? Any advice would be great!
