Has anyone here ever celebrated this traditional Swedish holiday? From what I've read, it's a fun after Christmas celebration for kids where they pillage the Christmas tree!

Anyway, it sounded like a lot of fun to us, so we decided to do a program at our library next weekend (first we'll have to figure out how to pronounce it!). We plan to have the kids take down our Christmas tree and will have hot treats plus other activities, and I'm wondering if anyone here has any suggestions...we attract kids from preschool to teens along with Moms, Dads, and Grandparents. Your suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks and HAPPY JULGRANSPLUNDRING!

We've got braided paper hearts on our tree. These are traditionally filled with treats: chocolate, caramel, sweets, cookies. When it's time for the tree to go, all decorations are carefully removed and the children snack themselves silly on the goodies. Well, that's the idea anyway. Some years we hang pretty chocolate figures on the tree too.

The pronunciation is straight up letter by letter in a flat tone. Remember rolling r-s.

When i was a child we did this, an i did this with my children. And we still do it here. I do remember tho my son would sneak candies outta the hearts, an when the tree come down some of the hearts would be empty...lol. but its just a little extra hurrah for the kids to help an get goodies for helping. Its fun. We also hung cookies from the tree. great for dunking in milk or hot tea or coffee..lol.

Oh, don't forget to walk around the tree and sing carols before you plunder it! Everybody, hand in hand, in one, two or three rings, depending on how many people you've got there. Ah, childhood memories of the Christmas parties at the school gym hall.

Thanks for both of your suggestions. I'll practice rolling my R's between now and then, and I'll let you know how it goes!

We had a fun and successful Julgranspludring program at our library this morning. Click here to view a slideshow of a few pictures from this morning: http://s154.photobucket.com/albums/s249 ... c8c869.pbr

Thanks for all of your advice...the kids had fun rolling their "R"s, and by the end of the program they had no problem pronouncing it.

I'm glad to hear it kaseylib. I can't get the slideshow to work, it only shows one photo and then goes white.
