Ok you hosta growers now you have peaked my curiosity! Is there a hosta that can stand direct sun for let's say 4 hours or all day sun?
We've got several. Hosta "June" for instance. "Blue Boy", sieboldiana "Elegans", "Great Expectations", "Striptease", "Gold Standard", "Guacamole", the undulatas, "Snowflakes". All those and several others are in direct sunlight for at least 4 hours here. We're in USDA zone 7. I shall have to mention that we rarely have one whole week of sun, though. Normally we have 4-5 days at the most before we get days of rain or clouds. Our temps rarely go higher than 25 deg C/77 deg F except from the odd day or two all summer. Hope this helps.
I'm in zone 4 and I have hosta's. Their in the sun for 4-5 hours during the early afternoon till early evening. I can post some a little later then again when their in bloom. I have 2 differant kinds but don't know their names.
A thought just occurred to me. We're at latitude 62 deg north, and the sun isn't very hot here even though we've got a mild climate. The hostas might get scorched a lot more further south.
That's what i was gonna say but ya beat me too it LOL! Yes we here in the deep south have anywhere's from 95 to 105f. in the summer so it gets hottt. But thanks for all the info everyone.
I have always heard the blue leaved types can take more sun. From my experimenting it has worked out okay so far.
Plantiginia, Lancifolia, Sum & Substance. There's more, but I dont have my list in front of me right now. I am in zone 5, and these are extreamly tough ones :-D
