We're in stage 3 watering restrictions here in North Texas. After losing half of my Cantalop, and struggling to keep my other plants alive in this heat and drought, I've finally installed a couple of moisture sensors around the garden to keep track of the soil moisture levels. I have 4 of these, one at 18 inches, one at 6 inches, another under the oak tree, and one in the bog garden. (believe me it drys out too) It pays to be water smart. Really difficult in these punishing summers.
