Just taken delivery of raspberry canes, how do I overwinter

    I have just been delivered raspberry canes and they say plant immediately, the ground is frozen and now covered with snow what do I do ?

    You must be in a very cold area. I think I would put them in a pot with potting soil and pray for a warm day or two to plant them. Other than that, try digging with a manual post hole digger. Plant them with a bit of green compost which might heat the ground a bit.

    Next time, heel them in a large enough pot with sifted bark fines and water them in well. Store in a protected place (a cold garage?) untill you can plant to feild.

    Cold wet early spring and latter frosts will not hurt newly planted cane fruit.
