I was reading posts on several different forums, and just thought of this. NEVER, never on the Stew have I encountered a nasty, cruel, or even disrespectful post. That is amazing! We are all somewhat anonymous in that we have user names until we become so familiar to other members that we are answered by our real first names; no one uses inappropriate language; and everyone respects everyone else. Isn't that amazing?
Fear of the Banning Button does wonders There have been a few over the years but they were quickly dealt with. Your question in a topic a few days ago....Does Nice=Nice is really proven by the members of GardenStew right from the time a new member joins, introduces themselves and receives many warm welcomes.
Yes Jane it really is amazing that our members are so different from those on other forums. That's why I've been here for nearly 11 years and hope to be here for at least another 11. Frank deserves a big pat on the back for having the BEST place to be on the internet.
I think it helps that we are still a relatively small community compared to some bigger sites. There have been a few episodes of argy-bargy but over the course of 11 years I think we have been lucky!
Jane--I think that this the single most important reason that I come here and stay here. The way that I see it is that first of all it reflects the character of the members here...but also it reflects "respect". The respect that the members here have for each other. It is a valuable and sometimes not so common commodity outside this website.
I think it has a lot to do with the subject of the site. People who care enough to do gardening and work to keep the earth productive and useful are caring people who do not insult things, be it the earth or the people on the earth. It's being and having friends all over the world even though this is the only place we meet. I don't post as much since we are in an apartment and I do not have a garden. I think it is what I miss the most about getting older. dooley
