Beautiful blooms Tina. I love Knock-out Roses, they bloom often and no pest or disease problems to worry about.
Are you asking if it's a KO? I'm not so sure. It has a lot of petals, though maybe some cultivars have that trait. The ones I have are not so pretty up that close.
Hi Tina, I have two knock out roses too & am having good luck with them. My garden does not get more than 1/2 sun anywhere, so that is pretty good for a rose. How much sun to you have?
Cayuga - We have the same kind of yard. My yard doesn't get much sun at all either. In fact this rose in under the huge oak tree - though not very close to the roots. I try to prune the lower branches to let some sun get in. I was surprised the rose bloomed at all and now that rose has 2 more blooms too. I love them.
My MIL just got me three of the KO roses...Can you give me some growing tips as to whether they need to be deadheaded or trimmed or anything? I would have never got me any of them, but she thought I needed them, I guess. God bless her kindness.
So very nice of her, Carolyn. I am such a novice at gardening. I take every gardening step after consulting the good people here at the stew. So, I am not equipped to give you any tips. For this one, I just dug a hole and put the plant in the ground. That's it. I am sure someone here will give you the advice you need and we can all benefit from that.
Carolyn, Our neighbors planted some KO roses in their backyard just before selling the house 3yrs. back. The new owners rarely step out in the backyard let alone maintaining the rose bushes. Now each bush is about 5ft. tall and at least 4ft. wide and they look gorgeous in the Spring more leaves then flowers like a giant rose bouquet. It seems their KO roses are pretty hardy and disease resistant. On the other hand I have some roses that have big blooms but require constant dead heading and spraying for bugs and diseases. I am actually considering replacing my roses with some of the perennials that I have in pots.
Just make sure they have plenty of elbow room, then stand back and enjoy the show. You can deadhead if you want, or not.
