Lady Slipper Rendezvous ( photo / image / picture from drissel122's Garden ) I finished my most recent watercolor. A rendition of one of my favorites, Lady Slipper Orchids (Paphiopedilum) in a enchanted, woodsy setting. This is an actual forest my husband and I often walk in on our way home from the beach. It is called Belleplain State Forest and is part of the pine barrens in New Jersey. We call it the Enchanted Woods. Not damp, but usually moist, it is covered with the most gorgeous mosses and lichens. One of my favorite settings for watercolor reference photographs.
*drooling* It's delightful! I'm sort of expecting to see a gnome poking his head up from behind the stump. You're good.
That is gorgeous, I always wanted to paint flowers, even took some classes but never followed up on it. I think I asked (and forgot) where are you in NJ? My family is in Point Pleasant.
Kathy that is amazing. I am so envious of those that paint. Do you have other paintings you could show? Gorgeous, gorgeous, etc.
I love your watercolour as the Lady's Slipper orchid is a favourite of mine. You have captured its delicate beauty perfectly and painted it in the ideal setting.
Hi Kuntrygal, I have others in the house and many family members have them in theirs too. The problem with taking pictures of the ones behind glass is the reflections that show up in the photograph. I have a couple more I am painting now...I'll post when they are finished. Thanks for the kind words. Eileen, the lady slippers were not growing in the actual reference photo...I love them though and since I have close access to Longwood Gardens, where they have a fantastic conservatory and a major orchid show in March, I have the opportunity to take many reference photographs there and compose interesting paintings with them. Thanks Daisybeans....are you dug out yet...are you getting more snow Monday night...we might.
Yes I know it well, two of my brothers went there when it was Glassboro State. My niece is in graduate school there now (isn't it Rowan now?). Stomping grounds of the Jersey Devil
I really admire your paintings. You have such a great talent.I always wanted to be able to paint but God didn't give me that talent. You are so very good at bringing them to life.
Thanks Glendann, Gfreiherr, Yes, it is Rowan University. Most of my family lives around it, and several family members went to college there. I can easily walk to every building from my home, and the new technology building is behind the development I live in.
