Hi, We are completely refurbishing an 160 year old cottage. My dilemma is what to use as floor coverings in the kitchen and bathroom… I would prefer laminate in both as it would look more cosy and country, but I have a friend who warns me against this as she found that hers swelled up when water was spilt on the flooring.. She advises me to use floor tiles. We’ll be putting underfloor heating in both rooms so tiles wouldn’t feel cold, but I think they look more harsh, modern and cold as opposed to wood. (I also hate it when the dining room chairs get caught in the grouting joins when you try to get up from a chair in the kitchen ) Any advice? Many thanks!! Gill
I put the handscraped laminate planks in my kitchen 2 years ago. It still looks beautiful and is very easy to care for. I just keep a rug at sink area and have had no problem with water. But I'm sure if there was a leak I'd have a big problem. I use a furniture pen for marks if need be.
