Could someone please identify this large bush that has spiky pink seedpods appearing in autumn. Thank you.

I have never seen these pods before, but when I looked at this earlier I thought the foliage reminded me of a dogwood, so Palustris may be totally correct.
Are the leaves arranged alternately on the stem or in pairs? A dogwood is alternate
Can you take a leaf off the tree and gently tear it in two, is there a thin strand like a spider web still connecting the two pieces? Also characteristic of a dogwood. Is this your tree, did it have beautiful cream or pink "flowers" on it this spring? (Dogwoods actually don't have a beautiful flower they have a bract which is modified leaves that act as the flower. The flower is insignificant, actually).

Thank you all so very much!! I do believe it is a cornus kousa...the seed pods are identical (thank you Palustris for the photo) and I did the leaf test that Carolyn suggested and Wha-La!!!

This is a wonderful site...thank you all again. I will definitely tell my gardening friends about you!!!

Cool! Glad we could help. I don't have one of these trees...maybe I will get one if I can find a spot for it. I like the "fruit".
