This is one of only two castles that were built on Shetland. Sorry about the rain spots!! Now aren't you glad I didn't let you see all 794 photographs I took?!! Great hall. Bedroom - actually a lot bigger than it looks here. Kitchen fireplace Looking upwards to where the second and third floors would have been. Shetland ponies trying to keep out of the wind and rain.
I could have looked at hundreds more! Looks like a great holiday. When I went to England a few years ago, I made a point of visiting a few castles. They are so intriguing. And hey... there's those cute Shetland ponies!
I wonder who they were defending themselves against in those castles.Obviously well built and I imagine that they would have been very comfy for the times. I've enjoyed seeing your shots too so thank you for sharing them. We have the same problem wrt sorting photographs.Knowing when to stop is the most tricky aspect don.t you think? Would you recommend the Shetlands as a destination Eileen?
It an interesting but short history attached to Muness Castle. Great pictures of the inside. I can imagine the lifestyle of the day surrounding the castle. Jerry
If you like peace and quiet and plenty of wildlife Kiasmum then I think you'd really enjoy a visit to Shetland. The weather often isn't the best but that never bothers me too much.
I love to look at photos of ruins like those and imagine the people living and working there. And then there are the battles to hold off raiders.
That is a rock solid castle. I wonder how long it takes them to build it at that time. Thanks for the for the interesting photos and those ponies are cute.
