With the colder weather, the herbs are not happy! I've harvested all the annual herbs right down to the dirt and either have them hanging to dry or have chopped and frozen them. The perennials are on a shelf in the barn, with a plastic cover available for very cold nights. I'm making my list out for next year (note to self--go easy on the basil!
Sounds like a good plan for protecting herbs and over winter perinneals. I use bubble wrap around patio pots and keep them next to the house under cover protected from frost.
Haha….that remark says volumes. Maybeyou ought to try different kinds of Basil— variety is the herb of life.
