The Last Night of the Proms is a television show that I never miss. I watch it every year. Last night I missed one of the funny songs that is played in the second half of the evenings' entertainment. The tune is played and at certain intervals the melody is punctuated with a "TOOT-TOOT" from the audience. I missed it in the repertoire last night and thought that I would look it up, but realized that I could no longer recall it's name. Does anyone know the name of this song? Thanks.
I never heard of the program but this article in the Telegraph mentions the music played and the name of this one sounds like it might be accompanied with sound affects. Fisher's Hornpipe?
Thanks Toni, I went to the link---it was a newspaper article written about the Proms that was on last night. I watched it, but the song that I waqs looking for, was not played during ther show--that's what caught my attention. However, just to be sure I googled that song title and listened to a number of individuals and bands play it. It was not this song. I remembered hearing that one last night and liked this song too. Thank you for looking, though. Hopefully some of the writers on here who live in GB will know that tune. You know, I thought that the show was broadcast over there...the announcer kept saying that the evening's show was being broadcast all over the world.
BTW Toni....and others-- if you go to this link and use the time bar at the bottom of the film....the soing that I am thinking of begins at minute, 4:25 . The link---- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFweTyUf ... re=related You just slide the time bar red dot to the right until the time indicator showing above your cursor hits 4:25 and begin playing it. 'Tis a catchy tune. Addendum: I have discovered that it was included under the umbrella title of Sir Henry Wood's "Fantasia on British Sea Songs"...I just don't know the name of the one song that I am inquiring about.
That song is mis-titled in the newspaper article. The song on UTube is Sailor's Hornpipe. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sailor%27s_Hornpipe The Fisher's Hornpipe a totally different song. Ummmm, wonder how the reporter got the wrong name.
hahaha...well, I don't know. I checked the other song out as well, AND THAT IS IT! Thanks so much, Toni.
