Got a call this morning that my Uncle had passed away. He was 87. That was my Mom's half brother. So all of my Mom's side of the family are gone now and the same for my Dad's side. I won't be in here much tomorrow as I will be going to the funeral.

It's sad when a generation reaches its end isn't it? I have no-one left on my side now and Ian only has two aunts and his mum. The wealth of history that our elders had is dimming too as very few of them kept diaries.

My thoughts will be with you tomorrow CK and with the rest of your family.

Aw. I am sorry to hear this. The connections between generations are so special... to be carried on now by your generation and the ones that follow... having just returned from our family reunion, these kinds of thoughts have been on my mind lately too.... We call it the Golden Threads that connect us to one another. Sending you warm thoughts CK....

That's a strange feeling, to relize that all those in the generation before us have passed. That leaves us to be the elders, and pass on all the wisdom. It's a sobering thought.

Just got home from the funeral and am glad that I went. Got to see 1st cousins that I haven't seen in about 15 years. When we were kids we would visit each other several times a year, but as we grew up, we grew apart. He was a Navy Veteran from WWII so there was a piper and an Honor Guard there to play taps and have a 21 gun salute. It was quite moving. My Uncle used to show me pictures of when he was in the Navy and was one of the major reasons of why I joined. He looked the same as he did when I last saw him.

So sorry about your Uncle passing. My Mom has 4 sisters but 2 of them are older than she is. She is 83 and helping to care for one of her sisters but she is not in the greatest of health herself. I tell her to take it easy but......I am glad you got to see your other relatives....

Isn't it too bad that we wait until a funeral to visit? I'm glad you got to catch up with family. It's just a shame that it takes something as sad as a funeral to bring you together. Our family is the same way :( I think all of us are guilty of that
