My garden is about to come to a close for this season. In spite of the severe drought & heat it has been a success. Some things have been nipped by frost.I expect a killing frost by the end of next week. Here are some photos I took yesterday. sewNsow purple salpiglossis ( photo / image / picture from sewNsow's Garden ) variegated plectranthus or Iboza ( photo / image / picture from sewNsow's Garden ) last Sept pix,Purple Dome Aster & castor bean ( photo / image / picture from sewNsow's Garden ) last Sept pix,Easy Wave orchid & Cherry Wave Petunia ( photo / image / picture from sewNsow's Garden ) Tidal Wave Cherry Petunia ( photo / image / picture from sewNsow's Garden ) last Sept pix ( photo / image / picture from sewNsow's Garden ) last Sept pix,Bubblegum Petunia ( photo / image / picture from sewNsow's Garden ) last Sept pix,Angelonia ,petunias ( photo / image / picture from sewNsow's Garden ) last Sept pix,red Mandevillia ( photo / image / picture from sewNsow's Garden ) last Sept pix,Dahlia Duet ( photo / image / picture from sewNsow's Garden ) Duet Dahlia ( photo / image / picture from sewNsow's Garden ) last Sept pix, closeup of new dark leaf dahlia ( photo / image / picture from sewNsow's Garden ) new dahlia with dark leaves ( photo / image / picture from sewNsow's Garden ) last Sept pix, view of back yard flower bed. You still have such a riot of colour in your garden. I hope the frost stays away for a while yet so that you can keep enjoying your flowers.
Gorgeous blooms. How do you get your petunias to look so full and happy and healthy? They are amazing.
Very nice. Do you save the dahlias for next year? if so, what do you do? I have one to pull and save if I decide to keep it, but it isn't a real issue either way. It isn't the color that it was labeled so I am not worried, but I was wondering if it was a lot of "fussiness" to keep them for the winter.
How lovely to read of someone having a successful garden this year What a riot of colour you have and I hope the killing frost stays away for you to enjoy it for a while longer.
Very nice, what a shame it has to be destroyed by the cold.Does everything disappear...do you start all over again?
I keep my canna, gladiolus, and dahlia tubers in an unheated closet. Keep them any where they do not freeze. A cool basement would be fine, too. Don
Hi everyone,Thanks for the comments & seeds. Haven't had time to be on here the past week.Busy time here trying to get things situated for the winter. About the petunias,I don't think they look as good as some I've seen but everything here probably benefited from rabbit poo on the pots.I didn't use it on dahlias because my instructions were not to use manure. I used to have good luck with saving dahlias in the basement but since we insulated & waterproofed down there, not so good.I had a lot of shriveling tubers. I did a search on line about storing dahlias & seems like wrapping in saran wrap is popular & also wrapping in newspaper.I haven't decided which route to take.I have some new ones I really, really want to save. sNs
Very pretty plants.Never had good luck storing glad dahlia .Think wood burner makes basement too warm
What a lovely way to end up the season, B-sew. You have such a good selection of colourful plants there. I really liked the Salpinglossis. I have grown these several times and always enjoy seeing them in someone else's garden too. The purple dome asters are striking as well. Well done all round.
