Well this morning while I was in another room I heard a loud crash. I run to see what happened.....there lay my jade plant (crassula ovata) and 12" high pot that was on a short stand on the ceramic tile soil, stone and plant snapped at the base. Why after 6 years did one of the cats (could been more than one) decide to knock it over. cats !!!!
What a tragedy. You may be able to get some of its leaves to form roots if nothing can be done with the rest of the plant. I have placed them simply on a dry windowsill and others just on top of soil in a small container and they have rooted for me. Perhaps they will root for you and you can begin again. Another thing to do is to remove the lower branches so that you can have a partially naked trunk and place that in water in a jar, for example. Good luck. Please keep us posted if you try and get something going.
@Sjoerd thanks for the tip but I cleaned up the mess and tossed everything. I will be stopping at my local nursery for a replacement if not that then something similar.
Oké Clay. Fingers crossed that your cats will show some consideration this go round. Chuckle. Cats can be such rascals sometimes.
Ok I found a mid sized replacement could not buy a small one. All planted the old plant was about 16" taller. Sjoerd I am putting a temporary cardboard fence around 3/4 of it hopefully it deters them till I found a permanent solution.
Clay. Lookin good. You did a good job with the new starts. Jade plants are so pretty. Sometimes we have plants for long periods of time they just become part of our daily routine always there to admire , water and fuss with. Good Luck.
We had two cats for twenty years and they had pulled some real boners. Good luck with this new plant.
