DR came and got me out of bed to see something unusual this morning. We had a hard freeze last night and the leaves on that big mulberry tree are falling like snow. You can hear them coming off and falling down to the ground. An amazing sight. I was just wishing they would all come down so I could get rid of them. See, wishes do come true. DR tried to get some pictures of them. You can see leaves in the air but the camera is too slow to catch many. You can see them against the wheel and the fence, too. Two pictures. Dooley
If they fall off you have to rake them up, Dooley. Do you use them on your flower bed and garden? Wannabe
The wind is really blowing now. All the leaves are up against the house or fence. They crunch when you walk in them. We went out to the post office. I walked in them and kicked them up in the air just like a kid. I know they will have to be raked. I've been putting them around bushes and over the bulbs, etc. I'm going to spread some on the herb area and dig them in to see if I can better that soil. Of course, I'll have to add more than leaves but that's for later. Dooley
We experienced the same thing a few years ago with our contorted mulberry. It was amazing but haven't seen it since.
Isn't it fascinating when this happens? :-D I think every single leaf fell from our Ginkgo tree within a few hours.
It happened to my weeping styrax after our first good frost. There in the morning and gone by afternoon. And noisy too. muddy
