I have just bought my first lemon tree. I planted it in the yard but don't know what to add to the soil to help it grow. What kind of organic mixture could I add to the soil? I'm trying to avoid chemicals such as miracle gro or similar items.
What part of Texas are you in? Lemon trees are very cold sensitive, more than other citrus so outside the Lower Rio Grande Valley you will need to supply some special winter protection or the tree won't last very long. Fertilizing shouldn't be done until the tree starts putting on new growth...usually starting in February then one cup of ammonium sulfate divided between 3-4 feedings thru the growing season thru August. But if you live outside of Valley, then the fertilizing should be whatever your area needs for fruit tree growth.
