We do have a Big Boy and Early Girl tomato plant and we bought one with small tomato plant for the chipmunks...that way they usually leave ours alone.... My husband doesn't want to bother with a vegetable garden with just the two of us at home so I thought I would show him you can have lettuce in a container and be able to enjoy it with a meal. I can't find the slip on what type it is but it sure was good the other night with dinner. May 23, 2016 232 (2).jpg

I can almost taste that lettuce.
Chapeau for your efforts there. I hope that you will grow more.

Sherry, if you do persuade your husband to have a vegie garden again please let me know HOW one only grows enough for two? It is an actual question! It is so easy to have too much of a good thing.

I think we have our hands full with all of my flower gardens around the yard. If it wouldn't be for my husband helping me, I am not sure I could do all of the work. We would have to convert a flower bed to a vegetable garden and with all of the perennials I have, I have too much money invested in our yard.

We did eat another salad last night from the lettuce that is pictured. It is different from regular lettuce but I will get used to it.

It took a while for me to get used to 'leaf lettuce' when I was used to head lettuce. It just doesn't have the same 'crunch' that head lettuce does.

They are sometimes called butterheads here, soft leaves. I used to only eat crunchy iceberg style lettuces but have grown to love the softer lettuces, especially If they are peppery. The ones I don't like are the bitter leafed varieties.
