I believe this is a Flame Skimmer. I couldn't get very close, I was afraid I would scare him off so I had to take a long distance photo from to the side,

And I found a photo I had taken of one in the backyard last year.

This is the one out front, that leaf above it is 3inchs long, so this is pretty good sized Dragonfly

Toni, I don't know how you got such good photos! I spent an hour chasing dragonflies around the yard today, trying to get a good picture of one, any one! No luck.
I'll try again tomorrow and see if I can get a picture. Until then, I'll just enjoy yours!

That's a nice dragonfly indeed. :D I like the colour variations in them, and I know what you mean by trying to get close enough without scaring them. :D Well done.

I really liked these fotosd, Toni--It looks to be orange in colour. I have seen some here that look quite similar, but never photographed them.
Your fotos are so good...and thoughtful too--giving the dimentions of the near-by leaf to give us an idea of the dragonfly's size.

Thanks so much for showing this guy.

I don't recall seeing one that color before. Nice job on getting photos.
