For us it's lots of rain anyway. We had two and nine tenths of an inch and it was lightly raining. Then, it poured and it's still coming down. I bet we get another inch. It's a long time since we could measure by the inch.
It wasn't hot today so for supper we had vegetable beef soup and oatmeal bannocks. I like to make bread but it's been way too hot this summer. I'm glad it will be a little cooler. I'd better not say that too loud or it will be in 90's again by the end of the week.

We have 3" of rain, and it is still coming down. Yippee! Temperatures in the low 70's, and we are happy.
We had chicken vegetable and pasta soup, and basil/parmesan bread for dinner. It's a rare occasion when we can have "autumn" food in September.
May I ask what are bannocks? I'm always on the search for bread type food, and it sounds like bannocks are perhaps a biscuit, or muffin?

You make the yeast dough in 8" round pans. When you put it in the pan you cut it into 8 triangles and let it rise about 30 minutes. It's easy to make,1 cup oatmeal,1cup flour, a little sugar, 1/4 cup of margarine, 1/2 half cup of milk, one half cup of water, teaspoon of salt and two paks of yeast. Oh, and one egg. Mix the dry ingredients, heat the liquid just until warm. Mix in with the dry ingredients, add egg.Add enough flour to make a soft dough. Beat until mixed, knead. Let rise until double. Shape into two 8 inch circles and put into two round cake pans. Let rise a second time. Bake at 375 degs for 25 minutes. I added 1/2 cup of currants but you could add raisins. It's very good hot out of the oven or cold with butter and jelly.

Lots of rain down this way too. Over 4.5 inches by noon and then it stopped for most of the day. Now it's coming down again. The doors and windows are open... nothing like fresh rain air and a cool breeze (not to mention the pitter patter of rain drops).
For our "cold weather" dinner, Hubby made a huge pot of stew and his famous cornbread (in the cast iron skillet).

The hole in the storm that opened up right over the DFW area this morning did close up and we had nice steady rain for about 8 hours. Winding down now, still a very light rain but nothing like before. I only got 1.375 inch so far but I am hoping it will continue through the night and end up closer to 2 inches. I hope, I hope, I hope!

What is it about cooler and/or rainy weather and stew or soup for supper. We had potato soup, no bread...I lost 2 dress sizes over the last year by almost cutting out all bread, not gonna blow it now ;)

We have rain here too but, then again, that's nothing unusual for Scotland!! I wish we could share some of ours with you all when you're going through drought conditions. We certainly get enough to go around.

Glad to hear you are finally getting measurable rain. I don't know what happened to the weather pattern up here, but it certainly has changed since summer. rain seems to be coming on a regular basis to the point of not getting much done in the garden except watch the weeds grow bigger. and it is cool now. only in the greenhouse can I find that bone warming humidity, but only if the sun is shining.

The rain pattern changed here too Carolyn. We had no rain May, June or July. Regular rains since mid August and September has been cool and wet. I wonder what October will bring?
I'm so glad Texas finally got a good rain too :)

We are up to four inches this morning. Rain was light during the night. Still cloudy and gray and dripping this morning.

Went to sleep hearing rain, and woke up to rain! We have 3 3/8" and it's still coming down gently. My garden is so happy--the hens, not so much.

I had another inch overnight with a slight chance for more this morning.

Dooley, thank you for posting the bannocks recipe--it sounds really, really good! I'll make some and see what my prime taste-tester (husband) says.
One more question--can you use instant oats?

The recipe says Old Fashioned Oats but since they get soggy and don't hold their shape I would try whatever oats you have on hand. Next time I'm going to try to butter the top and add a few oats for decoration before I bake them.
