Familiar with the Waylon Jennings song about going to Luckenbach,Texas. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4oISfIW ... re=related This is the town of Luckenbach, in it's entirety, no cropping of the photo was done, what you see here is what you get...a General Store and bar. Luckenbach, Tx ( photo / image / picture from toni's Garden ) It had an active U.S. Post Office until 1971.. It did have a post office ( photo / image / picture from toni's Garden ) It is now a party place almost every night. You can hear the bikers heading there in the early evening and leaving there in the wee hours of the morning. It is roughly 10 miles south of where we were but in a quiet country setting, noise travels well. A plaque giving the history of Luckenbach.... ( photo / image / picture from toni's Garden ) A bust of one of the founders mentioned on the plaque... Bust of one of the founders ( photo / image / picture from toni's Garden ) And a wood carving of some unnamed cowboy/troll/whatever.... ( photo / image / picture from toni's Garden )
Luckenbach is certainly the smallest town I've ever seen. I wonder what will happen to it when the whole population is gone. Your last piccie really made me laugh. I've heard of the saying 'too big for your boots' but never seen anyone that was waaaay too small.
Lol I have been there several times, my father was actually born there, my grandparents were married there in 1938.
Delly, that's so cool that you have family history in Luckenbach. There are a couple of houses in the area but I think they are where the three guys who run the store/bar and food stand live. We almost missed it. Saw what looked like a park off down to the right, drove on by and realized that it must have been the 'town' because there was nothing on the other side. There is one road that makes a U-shape from the highway, passed the store and party area and back to the highway again. It is literally one of those 'blink and you've missed it' little towns.
