Oh you won't believe it. I have 2, yes you heard me, 2 whole days off work! I already planned to have tomorrow off, but now I have had a cancellation, and although I could fill it, I have decided to be really selfish and take both days off and spend them on the allotment. Old Jack, my old allotment mate has left me a tray of 24 winter hardy lettuces by my shed, so I will be able to get them in, mum bought me some overwintering red and white onion sets, so they will go in, and I have mustard seed so I will get some of that sown as a green manure. I will try and remember to take my camera and take some pics, but by Thursday afternoon I am hoping both of my plots will be in tip top condition.

See Emma doing the happy dance! :sete_056:

How wonderful EJ! I don't think of you as selfish at all. You need to do some things for yourself sometimes. Enjoy your days off :)

Sounds like a lot of work!!! But I know how you feel, time spent in my garden is enjoyable. I might have a few sore muscles or a sunburn but it's enjoyable all the same :p Have fun on your days off ;)

Oh enjoy your days off to the max. Uninterupted days in the garden are hard to come by but boy do they restore your soul when you do get them.

Days off for anyone else would mean putting their feet up and relaxing. However, knowing you so well I can quite understand that having time to work on your lotties is your way of relaxing and having fun. I hope the weather stays good for you so that you can get everything planted. Enjoy your leave!! :-D

I just hope that you get some decent weather and don't have to plant those things in the rain.

...and please do take that camera, won't you.

I don't blame you one bit. It is so relaxing to me to just get out and dig in the dirt. I really like to plan out a flower bed and then work it all up. Its such a nice thing to see when it is finished.

I don't think your being selfish at all!! If that is your way to relax then do it up right. Make sure you have dirt up to the elbows, on the knees and all over the face. Now thats relaxing, digging in the earth and reconnecting to your allotment! Have a great 2 days off!!

Bliss and more bliss. I knew you lot would understand. It has been a damp day but the weather wasn't as bad as it could have been. I weeded and weeded and staked things and worked hard. I picked a huge carrier full of borlotti beans which I am in the process of shelling to dry them - I will just spread them out on newspaper in the conservatory to let them dry for a few weeks before storing them in kilner jars. I did take my camera but have left it downstairs so will either get it shortly or do it tomorrow as I am pooped and to be honest, bed is calling!! I am doing my blog at the moment and yawning. Happy days! More tomorrow.

I am getting ready to pot some mums for my fall decorations on my porch and deck. I just hate it when I cannot see the color outside my door anymore. I dread winter this year!

EJ, both you and playtime have mentioned Kilner jars in the last couple of days so I did a google search for them. I can't remember seeing them in stores here but I have seen some in antique/thrift stores and thought they were pretty neat jars. Next time I will have to buy them, depending on the condition I might be able to keep dried herbs in them.

Ooo Toni, I wouldn't be without them. When I bottle pears in the autumn I use these jars as they have rubber rings which makes a fab seal. There are several types of jars like it, some called Le Parfait jars, others kilners, but I love them all and have an array on my shelf in the kitchen as I keep my spices, pulses, rices and pastas in them.
