    Welcome to Gardenstew.
First, you have to answer some questions.
    l. What is your climate, warm, average, short growing time.
    2. How much space do you need or want for your garden
    3. What type of soil do you have? Acid, alkaline or a mix. Sand, clay, loam or what?
    4. What kind of plants do you like? Perennials come back every year. Annuals have to be planted every year.
    5. Do you want all flowering plants or some green bushy plants?
    6. Do you want a formal type garden with precise borders and formations?
    7. Do you want a cottage type garden with a mixture of flowers and plants?
Think about what and how you would like a garden to look and what space you have to make a garden. Write it down or draw a diagram.
Check with your plant nursery or shop to see what kind of plants they have. They can also tell you what kind of soil you have in your area. Generally, they will only sell what can be grown in your area. Starting a garden takes a lot of thinking about what you want and where you want it before you start to dig the ground and amend it for the plants that you want. There is great satisfaction and joy when you complete it, however. There will be more suggestions here before long so sit back and read them and ask more questions. Someone will have an answer for you. dooley

dooley, those are some good points for posterreal to think about. A garden takes a lot of planning. You also need to check the site where you want your garden and notice how much sun hits so you can match your plants sun requirements to your site.
