This morning, we found this little guy on an asparagus fern. Seems like he was smiling for his portrait, huh? Around lunch time, I took my daughter to a Pow Wow sponsored by the West Texas Native American Association. This was my daughter's first exposure to Native American costumes, song & dance. My daughter posed with this gentleman, who is a member of the Seneca nation. And then this gentleman, who is Navaho Here's a YouTube video of part of the Circle Dance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sK4FUNrzpVw
Great pictures...we have the Oneida Indians here that run the Casino and some other things..I have watched them dance at a couple of occasions but never got any pictures. I think they are very interesting to watch in their dances and all the bright clothing. Your daughter was so fortunate to get some pictures with them....Sherry
Great pics of the praying mantis. The NA Pics are awesome too. Their regalia is so colorful and beautiful. I lived with the Lakota and Ojibwe most of my time in America. The first pic, the lady is a Jingle Dancer and the man is a Mens Traditional. The pic with the little boy in it is, the lady with the shaw is a Ladies Traditional Dancer, then Jingle Dancer, the little boy is a Grass Dancer, the man is Traditional. All the rest are Mens traditional. Those are really great pics with your daughter in them. I'm sure she found it both intresting and facinating. I've been to many, many Pow Wows and loved everyone.
The mantis is so cool, but they look a bit scary. Looks like you had a wonderful day ut with your daughter. Those costumes are awesome. I always wanted to play indians when I was little, because they got to wear all those feathers.
