I have marjoram in abundance, but what do I do with it? I am just planting it in the flowerbeds as fill, but does anybody do anything with it.
Okay. Thanks, but I doubt if I went to the work of it that anybody would use it. I think I will just rub it and smell it as I am out there.
I bundle a bunch and hand them in my pantry to let it dry. Then I crumble it. It's just like oregano. Which I do also along with parsley. :-D
If you have oregano, marjoram, thyme, and rosemary, you can dry them together, crumble them very fine, and store in a jar or zipper bag. It's called Herbes de Provence, and is great on any white meat, green vegetable, or mixed into rice. I always put a bit of crumbled or finely chopped marjoram on green beans instead of salt. It tastes good on squash, also.
Marjoram is my absolutely favorite herb. You can dry it and then use it for seasoning. It's good for all Italian food with other herbs like oregano and basil. Then it's awesome to season chicken with it (just salt, pepper and marjoram and leave it for a while before baking) and pork ribs. Then if you ever cook any bean or pea soup you can't go with marjoram! Did I mention it's my favorite herb?
I use it primarily in Italian dishes like Waretrop. However, I confess to using it primarily in the flower garden for bees and butterflies.
