MEN!! So, we are in the garden this afternoon and we decide to move some pieces of railway sleeper we have so we can lift the guinea pigs off the ground and give the tortoise a secure run. Mark grabs the lump of sleeper in his arms...it slips...it crashes down onto his big toe....he cries out... So, off comes shoe, his big toe is comedy cartoon flat! Made me feel quite queasy. Off to the hospital, he has crushed the bone. There are at least 5 breaks that they can see but they can't be certain of smaller fractures, breaks, snaps and so on. EEK! So, strapped up, he comes home only to have to go back on Tuesday to the fracture clinic for more xrays and a meeting with the surgeon to see if surgery and pinning is required. Meanwhile...I picked up the said piece of sleeper and moved it into position...no injuries. I have decided Mark and I should live in a cotton wool filled room and never do anything even slightly dodgy!

Oh good grief EJ. I would say it's time for you two to stay in bed where it's safe but then we would probably read the headlines about space debris falling onto a house in Essex sending a couple to the hospital.

Hope his toe heals properly, probably will need some sort of surgery don't you think?

Ouch! Just hearing about what happened to your hubby makes me queasy. I'm an accident veteran so I'm familiar with breaks and the like, but shattered?!

I hope your husbands toe gets better! Tell him to stay off of his feet for a while and watch some football or something.

Now I know why I insist that Ian wears steel toe-capped booots in the garden. Poor Mark. I hope he's not in too much pain and that his big toe can be repaired, preferably without surgery. I think you should both ask for a suit of armour each for your next birthdays!! :p

    [IMG] OMG!

Well That IS bad news. Well, if it's shattered, then there may not be much to pin together and he could just get a splint for 6-8 weeks...or longer depending on how the x-ray looks.
I'm really sorry to hear this, I hope that he can keep the discomfort controlled enough to sleep at least.
Dids Mark have a blood blister under his toenail as well?

Please keep us posted. Poor chap.

Oh dear. That sounds awful. I hope for not too much pain for him and a recovery free of complicated procedures. I don't know what a railway sleeper is but sounds very heavy... Poor Mark.

Oh, no, poor Mark. I wish quick healing for him, and am sending good vibes your way. I think you've had enough accidents and injuries now, EJ.

Daisy a railway sleeper is one of the thick, wooden blocks that lie, at intervals, underneath railway lines to support them. They are solid and, yes, very, very heavy. :-D
