Guess what!? We're supposed to get another big snow storm starting Friday evening and all day Saturday! Could be 12 inches, could be 24! Either way, it's coming!!! And another one is predicted on Monday night into Tuesday! This may be as big as the one we had in December. WOW! I'm getting excited about it, to tell the truth. I feel like when I was a kid, the anticipation and excitement of it all. It's hard not to get caught up in it. Of course, I'll prepare a little differently -- yummy groceries, some stuff I don't usually eat, and plenty of good wine. Along with the requisite milk, bread, peanut butter, cat food and toilet paper. Maybe some maple syrup for pancakes too. I'll keep you posted.
Careful now or you'll end up with the amount of snow we got on the second-or-third-last snowfall we had. It got company too, and I have a feeling we've got 1/10th of the world's fresh water sitting outside here. I think your stock-up-plan sounds wonderful.
Oh dear, it sounds exciting alright. Stocking-up for the storm is just the thing. Do you expect that the schools and so forth will be closed because of it? It could well be a cozy experience, all bundled-up in your comfy home with 'special' goodies to nibble on and drink. Yes, please do keep us posted. I can recall once when I was visiting the states...it was in november I think. I would check the telly in the motel rooms for the weather forecast because we were touring the Southwest and at6 thise altitudes road closure and closure of passes were always a possibility. I was surprised at how the weather folks performed their job. It seemed as if they tried to instill anxiety in people with their method of speaking and presentation. It was so markedly different from the weather presentation here. I guess that we must be a bunch of stoic old matter-of-fact sticks in the mud here. hahaha. "Nuchter" is the word I'd use. Anyway...you make it sound like it's going to be a good experience, once the preparations are in place.
I'm still waiting for a good snow storm Daisybeans. I don't think we are anywhere close to our regular snowfall amounts. It makes me wonder what will happen in the spring ... not enough moisture in the ground. Maybe your storm will head my way ...
The local news is calling for 3 to 6 inches of snow here for Fri and Sat. All depends on how far north the storm comes and how much rain/freezing rain we get before turning to snow. But the weather channel is predicting 4 to 8 inches for us.
Daisy...I like the way you prepare, especially the good wine . I always get excited about snow because we don't get it that often. I was excited about our 3 inches last weekend! When we were in Northern Va for the Blizzard of 77 (I think it was during the President's Day holiday weekend) we had such fun. All the neighbors were out shoveling and playing in our 22" of snow and we had several pot luck dinners. Nobody could go anywhere for 4 days until the plows could get through. Lake Ridge, VA Blizzard of 1977 ( photo / image / picture from gfreiherr's Garden ) Notice all the men are shoveling and the women and talking. Thanks for stirring up these memories.
I would never get excited about snow.I had enough when I was in Montana. They ended up the week after I left with about 18 to 20 inches during that week.Thank God and Delta I was gone.
D/B ~ When snow or freezing rain/sleet whatever was predicted, we would stock up with milk, bread, eggs, cheese, bacon, a few other things and of course dog food and tp! GLENDA ~ You are so funny! Your story sounds like a country western song about being gone ...'thank God and Greyhound'. Think it was Roy Clark that sang it. Seems like Heather has had snow since the first of November when you flew up! I'm glad you are back, too!
Send some snow our way...we're SUPPOSED to get it and haven't for most of the winter. I think our area lakes will be down again this spring. Have fun trudging through...
Well it has started here. It was supposed to start with freezing rain at 3 am today, but it just started snowing at 11 am. Just barely starting to stick on the ground. Looks like it will be a heavy wet snow. It's real fine and light so far.
Yep kuntrygal I just used Delta instead of Grayhound.I think that song was a commercial for Grayhound buses.
I have enjoyed everyone's replies to my post. I like your pics Gail -- I remember that winter as a matter of fact. For those of you getting snow now... we're in good company... those of you without, well, so are you :-D ! Sjoerd, yes, the news here does create quite a ruckus... makes anyone who is prone to worry go over the top and even those who are level headed usually, do weird things like buy enormous amounts of food and wine... just in case, you know??? The snow is coming down lightly, started at about noon as predicted. We've dismissed all the kids early. There are only a few of us left in the building. I'm getting my things packed up and will stick around as late as I can so as to avoid using any vacation time by leaving early. One of the downsides of working for a hospital -- "we" never close. At this point they are predicting between 18 - 24 inches over the next 30 or so hours, I think. Supposed to be done by 8 pm or so tomorrow but then very cold temps and strong winds are supposed to prevail. Though I generally object to all the Hyper-Hype that gets everyone into a worried tizzy, in this case it seems to at least be getting most people off the roads before they get too dangerous so that is a good thing. This is such a highly populated metro area, severe weather really makes a mess of things like highway commuting and transportation... The airport has already begun cancelling flights later this afternoon and of course, tomorrow. Some friends of mine have been sailing in the British Virgin Islands the past week. Their flights home today have been cancelled and they expect to be "stuck" in the BVI till Sunday (poor things, right?). Another friend of mine is returning home to Maryland after a year in Australia. She and her husband with baby and toddler, left Sydney yesterday and will probably be caught on the West coast, delaying their homecoming!!! I guess that makes me feel pretty lucky that all I have to do is make my way out of the City and home to my creature comforts! Once there, I'll be in for the duration so hey, keep those cards and letters coming! All who are in the range of this storm (or any storms for that matter), do be careful, watch your backs and keep your hats on!

Sounds good Daiseybeans, as long as you can hole up at home until the worst is past. Our weekend looks gray and rainey, though I have plenty to do indoors. Also planning some sewing on some summer sundresses soon and that fresh bread with crispy crust to munch on. Enjoy!
So you're expecting a bit more than half a meter of snow? That's a lot in one go, and we'd have trouble coping with that here as well, even though we're used to heavy snow falls. We'd manage to keep the main roads clear, but the side roads is a completely different story. I'm glad our big car is a 4x4 with good clearance.
