This April's been very hot, one of the warmest for decades, and here's the proof of it. Lily-of-the-valley usually blooms here after May 17th: Lily-of-the-valley in bloom on May 1st! ( photo / image / picture from Droopy's Garden ) These tulips also usually bloom around mid-May: Wedding present tulips ( photo / image / picture from Droopy's Garden ) The plum tree's hard at it too: Plum tree blooms ( photo / image / picture from Droopy's Garden ) And this little Rhododendron should not bloom now either: Rhododendron yakushimanum-cross ( photo / image / picture from Droopy's Garden ) Nor this one: Rhododendron Baden-Baden ( photo / image / picture from Droopy's Garden ) Our Uvularia is blooming for the first time. We bought it last year: The Uvularia ( photo / image / picture from Droopy's Garden ) You should see this auricula in real life, it's red is so velvety it's unbelievable: Love the red of this auricula ( photo / image / picture from Droopy's Garden ) And I finally realized why "Sword" is named just that: Primula auricula "Sword" has the coolest cover! ( photo / image / picture from Droopy's Garden ) I'm wondering what will be in bloom by mid-summer when everything's blooming now.
I think all of your blooms are wonderful but the red auricula are so gorgeous and that deep red is almost burgandy. I love it
Thank you Glenda and FF. I hope we won't get any frost either, but since we haven't had any for weeks I trust we won't have any before November now.
Droopy, what gorgeous blooms. And such striking colors. Seems like the weather all over the world is out of whack!!
Send us some of your heat. No sign of lilies of the valley yet here, although my peonies, daylilies, and irises are growing everyday due to the rains we've had. And I'm lovin' it!!!
Beautiful blooms. I love the Wedding Present tulips and Auricula. Your Rhododendron are so similar to our Azaleas. I know they are the same family. The shades are so delicate.
Ooh! they are all so pretty! There are a few I am not familiar with -- the Auricula, uvularia and primula -- so they are interesting. But I love the look of the plum tree, very elegant. Enjoy them!!! I did!
Droopy it looks as though you are having the same things happening in the garden as we're having here. Everything appears to be approximately three weeks early this year. Not that I'm complaining as we're getting a lovely spring show. Our plum tree has actually finished flowering now but the cherries, pears and apples are blossoming. My azaleas are a little behind your rhododendrons though as they are just starting to come into flower. Our tulips are in full bloom too and opening up in the sunshine just like yours. Aren't they lovely? I'm intrigued by your Primula auricula "Sword" as I haven't seen any in our garden centres. I love the look of them and will add them to my list of 'things I must have' along with those gorgeous auricula. :-D
Those are spectacular colours, Droopy! What a beautiful selection this time. The Auriculas are just as striking as can be. If they are even more amazing in 'real-life' You are certainaly to be congratulated. I sure do like the bright colours. Those pics are just fantastic to see.
Thank you all for liking our blooms. I'm sort of wondering what will be blooming later since everything's blooming now and not managing to bloom for a long time since it's so warm. Well, we've always got the annuals to fill in with I guess. Those tulips have bloomed for us every year for 11 years, they're amazing. Hand-carried from Holland by one of our wedding guests 12 years ago. daisybeans, I guess you're in a much warmer zone than me, so the primroses probably won't like it there. Eileen, the "Sword" is a strange, little auricula. It's green, brown and yellow, with that funny-looking cover leaf. We've had it for four years, And it really likes our chilly, wet conditions (well, we normally have that).
Wow, very very nice! Everything down this way is blooming also. I think i'm alot further south than you. and east,,lol. All the flowering trees are in bloom. The raspberries have flowers on them, and the Poplar trees have their buds. The last i am told doesn't happen until after the 17th also. I have the same tulips that are blooming also. Just the yellow. So maybe all of Norway is a little warmer this year. I know up north from last i heard they are now almost at 10c everyday. Now that is not heard of until almost June. I do like that last pic. Very different. But they all look so nice. I can't wait to see what blooms here.
Those auricula are stunning, I dont think I have seen them before, My mums plum tree blossom is over and hopefully there will be lots of fruit this year there was definately plenty of blossom on the tree. I think all your pictures are lovely and it so nice to see everything blooming for you, even if a little earlier than normal.
Thanks for the kind comments. Let's hope for lots of nice fruit for all this autumn. Biita, you are way south and east of me, with milder winters and warmer summers. Should make quite a change from the Arctic.
