The dog has grown by at least 20 lbs since we got her back in August. WOW is all I can say for her size already. I am kind of hoping she tapers off now, but she is still a puppy at 5 months

Maya is growing into a really handsome dog Carolyn. I love her expression - she's obviously just waiting for someone to play with her. :stew2:

I checked out an earlier photo of Maya from your Garden Carolyn and she really is growing. Is that her favourite bottle that she loves to play with?

Eileen, She is always ready and waiting for someone to play with her. She has outgrown the large inside cage so mostly it is for training while she is in the house during the day and then she goes out to her yard at night. Which I think helps keep the skunks and 'coons out of the yard. She is really a nice dog.

Frank, her favorite toy is a squeaky toy, I think. This happened to be on the table the other day and was reminded of the "pop bottle" toy at the store the other day that was a covered water/pop bottle that you replace the bottle when it is worn out... so I just gave this to her to play with and it makes a great amount of crinkly noise as she occupies herself. And I know where she is, too.

That is one happy puppy! She is large for five months--but every ounce is prime. How adorable!

Jane, I think she is going to be LARGE. Sire is 130#'s  Dam is 70#'s....no telling exactly what she will be, but I am expecting large. I think she is over 50#'s already. I need to take her to the vet just to have her weighed.

Oh Carolyn, you reminded me of our St. Bernard/Collie mix getting weighed. When we got him, he was half-starved, and the vet asked me to weigh him weekly because he didn't want him to just gain weight, but to build muscle slowly. We had a bathroom scale--the flat kind that you stand on and the dial is between your feet, and Lad would get on the scale with all four paws on the pad and look worried. He thought he was going to fall off (he was about two inches off the ground, but he was a worrier). When he was nervous he panted a lot, and the needle jiggled and jigged. I was on my hands and knees trying to get a reading and the dog was hyper-ventilating while the scale registered a 10 pound variance. I started taking the average and reporting to the vet.
Lad filled out and was the best dog you could ever want. Sometimes the big ones just have more room for love!

Aww,she's lovely. The favourite thing to give my 2-yr old is any plastic bottle. She'll even help the council by bringing home the discarded ones from the park :D

If you want to make the bottle even more interesting you could pop a few treats inside it.

Just hangin' out ( photo / image / picture from carolyn keiper's Garden )

Well, now Maya is 6 mo. old and perhaps slowing down on growing....But she is a nice sized dog so far, notice the flooring...they are 12' squares. Starting to really be a family dog. I can take her outside without a leash (as long as I have treats) and she follows or runs ahead to the chickens or out to the bunnies, she usually beats me there. I am not sure if she would "play" with them or eat them. She doesn't raise her hackles, but she sure does sniff and nip at the bunnies. It is a very good thing they are in a cage, I think.

That is such an expressive face on Maya! I'm sure she is a great companion, and a constant source of amusement.

Jane and Deanna, She is such a nice dog. Her floppy ear is so endearing, too. Sometimes it stands up, other times it is flopped over. Smart! So smart that if she doesn't want to do something she just stands there....waiting....waiting....."OH a TREAT?, I'll do something for that!"

So sweet, Maya reminds me more and more of my Shepherd 'Shadow'. She was my best friend for 13 and a half years.

Maya is turning into a real beauty isn't she? She so obviously adores you from the soft look she's giving you as you take her picture. I know she'll be your friend and companion for many, many years to come.
