It has been very busy here with my garden, and just regular stuff, and my elderly cat, Kittykat died a few days ago. She was about 20, and I have had her since '97. Kittykat had been rescued from an abusive home. She has been frail and not doing too good for awhile now, and then got sick a few weeks ago, and I thought she was gone then. She hung on a bit, and I did not take her to the vets because riding in a car, or going to the vet was her two biggest fears. She got to die at home with her own family around. My one dog, Darlin has always been a cat chaser [and a chicken chaser, etc] so I was surprised when she LET Kittykat use her crate willingly. Darlin appointed herself Night Nurse, and Protector. Not that my other dogs would ever hurt Kittykat, but Darlin made sure. They were all very gentle with Kittykat and kept her company. We all miss her. Darlin cried for several days, and none of the dogs used the crate for a few days also. But she was just too sick to continue on any more. Awe! Isn't it funny how dogs know what is coming? I hope you all feel better soon. It is so sad to let go of a pet.
Out pets are so important to us. They know us and we know them in the most personal ways. They really are always devoted. For the people who realize this, it's hard when they leave us. I am so sorry for your loss.
After a somewhat rocky start in life, KittyKat surely found a perfect home! The only consolation in losing a pet is remembering all the kind, loving things you did that made that pet's life a good one. KittyKat was lucky to have you (and the dogs).
Aw honey, I'm SO sorry. When your pets are your family, their loss is particularly difficult. I'm so glad that KittyKat was well loved and protected, and that she got to leave surrounded by the people and pets she loved. You did a good thing rescuing her and giving her such a good life.
AA-- I am so sorry for your loss. I think you did the right thing, not subjecting her to a terrifying car ride & vet exam at 20 years old. Pets are such an important part of our lives.
KittyKat had 17 years with you that she wouldn't have had otherwise. I'm sure she would say, if she could, that she was happy to pass with her family around her and in her own home. She will live on forever in your memories.
Thank you. I miss her, but at least she is not suffering further. I buried her out back in my "memory garden" for my pets. I am trying to decide what flowers to plant on her grave.
Old age is not fun for our dear pets either. Neither is the alternative tho. How is your Ginger now? Is she the same one you had when we were on GT together?
