Whilst in France we visited a beautiful medieval walled city called Carcassonne. It was the stuff of fairy tales, so pretty, the sort of castle a little girl would draw with dragons and drawbridges. Anyhow, whilst there they held a tournament with jousting and fighting. It was thrilling - the kids were in awe. The noise from the galopping horses was deafening as we were so close. Spectacular. Hope you enjoy a selection of pictures taken that hot day.

Well EJ.... you guys reall;y DID have an exciting time, didn't you. What lovely surroundings there. I didn't know they had jousting there. Was that a daily show or a festival that occurs once a year?
That first pic was especially nice.
BTW...did you take all the pics, or did Ava have a go as well?
I'm really glad that you showed these vac pics. I like Medieval stuff.
    Thanks a bunch.

Thanks Sjoerd. It was a daily show during August, twice a day, boy were those horses hot! But the guys really looked after them, and they had a lovely cool stable and were being sponged down and groomed before and after each show.
I took most of the pics, altho Ava did take a few. We lurve medieval tournaments and castles, this day out satisfied all of our needs perfectly.

Gosh EJ, that's so amazing. :sete_026: Did they actually joust and sword fight?
The pageantry must have been beautiful. The castle certainly looks like it came straight out of a fairy tale.

That looks like it was a lot of fun. They've put so much work into the details! Nice photos too.

They did joust, sword fight, fight with axes, long swords and wooden poles. It was very exciting and so noisy!

Looks like a lot of fun. I love the castles! We visited Scotland early this summer and I had never seen such old buildings in person before. If those old walls could talk...

WOW EJ those are fantastic photographs. Would you mind if I passed them on to Duncan as I know he'd love to see them? Those horses and men must be exhausted at the end of each day but what a wonderful spectacle they make!! :D

Standing in front of, and seeing a real castle, is one of my biggest dreams. Icing on the cake would be to get to go in and look around or stay a night.

Oh, I've always wanted to see one of those shows! Thank you for posting, EJ. The first photo made me want to move in straight away. What did the falcon do? Or is it an eagle? I've never seen a falconeer up close in RL either. That tournament really looks exciting, I'd probably be biting my nails off. Love their costumes, and the colours of it all. Wonder if it's the king and queen at the top.

The second photo was the prince and princess. The birds of prey did tricks around the audience, but the eagle was toooo big, he just flew up and down the jousting arena. He was quite spectacular. I have masses of photos from the event, it was so exciting! Eileen, of course you can pass the pics on. Glad you all liked them.
