Speaking of nostalgia, (well, somebody did!) this is an old pic that stirs pleasant memories of many hours of sitting around 'picking and grinning' with my FIL and some other folks..
I think several of you will know what 'picking and grinning' means but for those who don't, I'll explain; 'picking' refers to making music on stringed instruments that are played by plucking their strings (thus picking) such as guitars, mandolins, banjos, etc., 'grinning', of course, is sort of self explanatory, when everyone is playing reasonably well, you just can't help it..

Well Hank, now we see you have always been a handsome guy!
Pickin' and grinnin'--oh yes. I was raised in Southern Illinois (emphasis on Southern) and there was a band that would play at picnics, 4th of July parades, high school homecoming, and the drop of a ratty old hat. My uncle played banjo in that band, and the whole family had to turn out to "listen to Uncle" whom we had heard interminable times before. The repertoire of the band was small, but played enthusiastically. I remember sitting on a blanket at the local park, swatting mosquitoes, and listening to yet one more rendition of "Oh, Susannah" with everyone singing along.
That may account for my fondness of classical music.

Say Hank--why don't you post a pic of you pickin' and grinnin'?....or maybe even a little audio clip. I'd like to hear that.

Sjoerd, I've actually considered doing that (posting a audio clip on youtube) but so far have rejected the idea for various reasons, modesty being fairly pertinent among them.. I may do it sometime, though, thanks for asking..
Thanks to all for your replies and encouragement..

BTW Henk--What sort of music did you pick and grin to? Bluegrass/mountain music by any chance?
I can understand that you are reluctant to post a youtube vid of yourself. I totally understand that...it does not; however, deminish my interest in your music.

Should you ever post some music,. please let me know, mate. Oké?
