I planted Midnight Ruffles leaf lettuce last spring, and was very pleased with it. I planted the rest of the seed packet this fall, thinking it better to use up the seeds. I've been picking Midnight Ruffles, from about 10' of row, for over a month! The leaves are ruffled at the edges, green with red tips, crisp, and with a faintly nutty flavor (although that might vary with the soil). I've given lettuce to friends, taken some to the local food pantry, and my husband is checking his mirror to see if he is developing prominent front teeth and elongated ears. He already has felt the urge to hop . . . . This variety of leaf lettuce has been a great find for our garden. If you like leaf lettuce, and have the space, you may want to try it. We are happy that we did!
Guess what type of lettuce seeds I got for my birthday Jane? Yep Midnight Ruffles!! After reading your post I'm most definitely going to be planting them come spring as we both love leafy lettuces. I'm so glad you posted this topic. :-D
