I went out to water this evening, enjoying the quiet when I picked up a pot and Wham! I disturbed a yellow jacket nest and one hit me in the face and bit me right on the cheek  Hurts like crazy! When it cools down later hubby is going to find the spray and take care of that nest! It's good to know I am not allergic!! I've always kind of wondered...

Yikes! I really dislike those stinging little devils!
Glad to hear you're not allergic... but it hurts like the dickens anyhow. I'm trying to remember all the ol' treatments. Did you get the stinger out? Make a paste out of baking soda? Place some chewed up tobacco on the bite? Wait... I think I'm mixing up remedies...
anyhow... hope you're not in too much pain for too long.

I once took hold of a wasp nest on my ladder in the shed, and got stung all over my face. None of the old remedies worked. Nothing worked. I almost had to go to the ER.

I hope you wound heals quickly.

OUCH!! Fingers crossed your face heals quickly and that your OH manages to destroy the nest and all its occupants.

Plantain (plantago major) makes a great poultice for insect bites and stings. I pick it and crush it and hold it on the spot for 10 minutes or whatever you want to for making it feel better, but usually only takes a few moments to feel the difference.

Ouch!! Those pesky creatures do not make for friendly neighbors. My father, a neighbor and I were burning brush that had accumulated a few years. I removed the old brush to add to a burn pile, when I neared the bottom the pile hummed as I inserted a pitch fork. I poked once more to be sure and then backed off as one bumble bee emerged. We all watched, then a yellow jacket emerged. Gasoline was added to the remaining pile and ignited. The bees and wasps spent the rest of the morning putting out the flames. Needless to say their nests were a total loss, there were no survivors.

Believe me, you are no wimp! Those stings are so painful. An ice pack helps, but only time really takes the pain away.
So, Jerry, what do toasted bees and wasps taste like?
