So I'm rooting some mint in a little jar of water. The first pic is from the day before yesterday. The second pic is from yesterday. Look at how much longer the roots are. It just amazes me how fast these things can grow! Not sure why I'm so amazed...but I am. Lol! In some low-lying areas where mint grows and the soil is saturated with water, Mint is the dominant plant. I have an occasion to walk around a reservoir where the soil is saturated and mint grows everywhere. Its roots having taken advantage of the abundance of water. Even walking on the periphery, the smell of crushed mint permeates the air. If you plant mint and keep it watered, be forewarned, you will have mint, LOTS OF MINT. Jerry
I hope you're going to be growing your mint in a pot PD or it will take over any garden space you put it in. My mints would have a field day if I planted them outside. They do tend to spread like wildfire.
Years ago my mom planted some by the back faucet. It just grows and grows... and gets mowed and mowed. There's no way to get rid of it, and it really isn't hurting anything. So it gets to live.
I absolutely love mint!! I planted one in the front of my house where there really isn't anything else planted. The rest I do have in pots. I keep hearing about how invasive it is and by the roots on this thing...I can see why! It's kind of scary actually. Lol!
I love mint, I have 6 varieties I have Chocolate Mint growing by our front door, but Ive decided I want to replace it with Pineapple Mint, cause its prettier <.<
I haven't seen that. I'll have to check it out. I make mint tea all the time. I just can't get enough mint!!
I took a clipping of chocolate mint from my dad's garden a few years ago and it's taking over the corner of one of my raised beds. Mint gets crazy!
I have been ripping mint out of my veggie patch by the handful! I guess the rototiller caught some root once and now it is happily spreading through the entire garden. I do use some, but there is way too much...
Too right! It really is a survivor and spreads so quickly and thoroughly. I like it though. It has a very pleasant smell and is so refreshing in tea upon occasion.
I looooooooooooooooooooooooove mint! I wish mine would go hog wild like that. It will grow a few years, then it just disappears. We do get drought years some years, but the last one was 2 years ago. So, this year, my mint died off. A friend gave me some more, and I put it in a new spot. HOPEFULLY, it will take off and grow like bonanzas. The wild mints like bergamot/bee balm do quite nicely, and no problems with it dying off. I dug it up and put a lot in my flower beds. Butterflies and bees go bonkers for it. The hen bit is everywhere, and the only thing it is good for is feeding my chickens in the spring. [I had no idea until earlier this year it was a mint.]
