The pilot ditched in the icy Hudson River and all on board were rescued by a flotilla of converging ferries and emergency boats, the authorities said. What might have been a catastrophe in New York — one that evoked the feel if not the scale of the Sept. 11 attack — was averted by a pilot's quick thinking and deft maneuvers, and by the nearness of rescue boats, a combination that witnesses and officials called miraculous.
I heard about this off friends while hosting a backgammon tournament yesterday and i said the same its is a miracle that no one was killed, that pilot deserves something for managing to safely ditch the plane in the river giving everyone the best chance of survival and not damaging property or endangering more peoples lives.
All praise to the pilot as things could have been catastrophic if he hadn't kept a cool head. I think he deserves a medal for the way he landed the plane without any loss of life.
The pilot does indeed deserve a medal, and I am sure he will receive one. It appears the passengers all kept a cool head also. And the ferries all getting there so quickly. Thank God that the river was an option instead of just the tall buildings. That would have been catastrophic.
That's an amazing story, and so very, very good to read too. No-one harmed, and even the plane was towed away.
It's always nice for a bit of good news as the top story on most news networks for a change. It could so easily have been a bad one.
It is pretty scary to listen too especially when you have someone that will be coming home from working in California the next day......
I saw this on the news this morning. Last I saw they were trying to get the plane out of the water. Everyone on board survived...amazing!
It was an amazing thing to see on the news. I cannot imagine how terrified the passengers and crew must have been. The pilot did an top job getting that plane down smoothly onto the water, and the boats were in like a flash to take away the passengers.
The pilot has been flying since he was 15 ~ crop dusters. And he is a native Texan!!!! Great job Scully!
I think the woman who had to throw her little baby deserves kudos too! So nice to have some amazingly good news for a change...
