i just picked up a bunch of seed packets from the store.....one i bought i hadn't seen before...the label says 'balsam' and underneath it says camellia mixed colors....when i did a search it came up with a type of impatients.....why would they label it like that...nothing camellia about it....and if it is the impatient type...i already have it and it is a very invasive plant that will reseed itself all over the place....the picture on the front didn't resemble what i have...it took me a couple of years to get it somewhat under control..good thing they weren't expensive. thank you for your plant search...i've just saved my self alot of work... :setc_033:

It is a Species of the Balsaminaceae family....Impatiens blasamina and a Cultivar of that Species is named 'Camellia'. I believe they named the cultivar 'Camellia' because the blossoms resemble the Camellia blossom.

It can get confusing, especially when they name one cultivar with the name of a another species simply because it resembles the other one. Usually it is best to not depend on the cultivar name to properly identify the plant because of that.

Not all impatiens look alike, I have seen some that I would never guess were related.

Good to know that our plant search feature and pages helped you avoid a plant that you have had troubles with in the past. ;)
