Last April, I bought 2 tomato plants. One was a Geman Johnson which was labeled correctly. The other one was supposed to have been an Early Girl. But it turns out to be a Roma. But thye flavor is good so it's ok. Last year the same thing happened. I bought an early girl and it turned out to be a Roma Cherry plant. This was at 2 different stores. But the brands were both from Bonnie Plants.

How irritating! I'd not be happy. Luckily I'm a 1/2 mile from a nursery, so I get to buy from the source. They seem to always get it right.

Captain, we buy Bonnie plants here in Texas, too. Often when a customer takes the tag out to read it, the customer doesn't put the tag back in the right pot. I've bought thyme plants labeled as dianthus, and oregano labeled as spearmint!
Bonnie's plants are good plants, but the company has no control over what the public does after the plants hit the market.
At least you got good tomatoes, even if they weren't what you expected!
I've never heard of Roma cherry tomatoes. Do they taste good?

Sounds like you are not getting a bonnie good deal Captain I would let Bonnie Plants know that you are not satisfied with the quality control of their products.
    (334) 738-3104 They do not seem to have an 800 number.
An alternative is the manager of the establishment where you purchased the plants. However I would not let it pass, unless you want a encore performance.
Most businesses don't want unhappy customers especially over a plant.

I also have seen people put label in wrong container. I like the ones you have to pick up whole plant to read it. Until you buy it can break off. Also they have name on side of pot.

Have you ever gone to a nursery with a toddler? My little niece Gracie was with Mom and I and when we got to the check out she said "Here Grandma, I found these for you." There must have been at least a dozen tags in her grubby little hands!!

The Roma Chrries taste almost like a regular Roma, just smaller. Not quite as strong a flavor. But man did it ever produce fruit! Once it started it always had about 40 maters on it. I bet I got well over 200 maters off that one plant. Great for salads. I had gotten it at Home Depot last year.

Thanks, Captain. I'll look for either seed for Roma Cherry in January, or for the plants later.
Gosh, I love the things you can learn here on the Stew! :)

Cap't, You may have had a san marzano tomato. A small paste tomato that is excellent. I sold the most of those this year.

    labels

Mis-labeling is the main reason I started starting my own from seed years ago. Even I had a couple boo-boos where I put out plants and the labels got mixed somehow. It happens, especially as someone said at a retail outlet where a customer can make a mistake, before you come along. At least you got tomatoes! :-D

I had a major mis-labeling experience. I had about 60 rose cuttings rooted and in 4" pots, with popsicle sticks as labels. My cat loves to play with popsicle sticks . . . .
I had to wait until each one bloomed to tell which rose was what!

Sun. when I watered my maters, I checked for mater worms, none whatsoever. This morning I did the same thing and pulled 12 of the caterpillars off of 2 plants. I am ready to give up on these plants.
