well after last years disaster with the peas. (had a bird get stuck in the netting which distroyed 75% of the plants and the rest had died by the time we got back from our long vacation) so had no peas last year. With hindsight this year is going better, with pea canes instead of netting and staggered planting, had our first fresh peas yeasterday and they were wonderful in a chicken and pea risotto. Also made a great pea soup with 20 pea pods, removed peas, and chopped up the pods fried off some onion and added the chopped pods. cooked down a bit then added the peas and some chicken stock just to cover. with three fresh mint leaves cooked for 5 mins then blitzed. sieved the fibrous bits out and voila! a great tasting pea soup and a great use for the pea pods.
Please give me the recipe. the little boys across the road helped me pick peas last week and wanted to know if you could make soup out of them. I said I had no idea or how many peas it would take. They are so cute, and really good helpers when they come out and I am over in the garden doing something. Last year when they moved in I offered them some fresh peas and their mom didn't think they would eat them....she must not have ever had them. the boys devoured them and now keep coming back to help.(just for the free peas, I think)
