I think (& am pretty sure) that I have a mocking bird building a nest in my lilac tree! I've never seen one before, but after some research I am confident that is what it is. actually there are a couple....do not know yet if it is a real nest, or just one they are building for a choice.....been in and out of the garden, weeding, etc. and they do not seem too afraid of me.....kind of cool.....they've been hanging around for a couple of weeks, and finally spotted a nest at the top of the tree (maybe 5-6 ft off the ground).
will try and get a picture!

Whenever a mockingbird is in the yard I try and get it to imitate my whistle. I have never seen a nesting pair. They are friendly birds especially when the bushes have berries.

I love having the Mockingbirds in my garden, they are so elegant looking. http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Nort ... ingbird/id

Sometimes they will sit on the fence, tilting their head while listening to me tell them how pretty they are...it makes me wonder if they really do understand what I am saying and are simply acknowledging that I am correct. ;)

Put out a flat pan on a table or something else off the ground and keep fruit in it. The ones in my yard love grapes and old blueberries.

They can also get pretty aggressive when protecting their nest/youngsters.
