Looking down below, we saw what looked like mole hills on the dike. Up close they proved to be mushroom mounds: I have never seen these here, so I am wondering if any of you mycologists can identify them.
No idea what they are, but we have ones just like them in the garden at present. And yes from a distance they do look like soil mounds.
I have never seen them before ! Just looked through a ton of pics and still didn`t see any that looked like yours ! When you find out what it is,,, let us know ! I am curious !
All I know about the difference between mushrooms and toadstools is that the underside of the cap of a true mushroom is covered with narrow flanges called 'gills'. In a young mushroom these are pink but as the mushroom matures they turn brown to almost black. Toadstools or poisonous mushrooms have gills that remain white throughout their entire life cycle. Not much help in actually IDing the ones in your photograph though I'm afraid.
