I popped in to see what mother was up to yesterday. She wasn't up to much since it was raining, but some her plants were enjoying the weather.

I had to laugh when I spotted her Acre with the green fronds sticking out:

And the orchids were enjoying the rain too:

The rest of the blooms were more or less rained away.

Oh, good grief, Droopy! I don't think that I've ever seen an Acer quite that large. I saw one recently that was a little more than 1/3 that size and thought it was something, but this...It looks remarkable. Those little fern tips somehow make it look sort of interesting.
Her Orchids are looking well out in the rain. I'll bet they are loving it. Those big purple pots attract my eye right away.
I am interested in that "blow-in" orchid. Is it a wild sort? How tall do they get?

Thanks for posting these they were fun to see--rain or no rain. :)

OO I love that acer 'animal' Droopy. Now all it needs are some eyes to complete the piccie!! :D I had a wind blown Common Spotted Orchid in the garden last year (hope it comes back again) and would love it if one of the ones you mum had dropped in too. :-D
Those striking purple-cupped orchids always make me think of wrens nests when I see them.

Hahaha! Droopy! Have you ever seen The Adams Family? The tree reminds me of Cousin It! He was covered with hair from head to toe, with glasses!

Seriously, it is a beauty! The color is lovely against the greens. I've never imagined such an orchid -- that's gorgeous.

I'd love to see your mom's garden. It looks like it's full of all kinds of surprises.

Thanks for also finding the acer a funny sight. Yes, it does look a bit like Cousin It. :D

I seem to have forgotten to put a name to the dark orchid, it's Cypripedium tibeticum.

I don't know which one the wild, blow-in orchid is, but it's about 25-30 cm tall, that's 10-14 inches.

hahahahahahaha, Kuntrygal! I like that comment. :D

(So some other time I guess I googled it so I knew it was the genus name for Maple. I remember thinking... Acer? Looks like Maple to me.... but what do I know? And it was. Imagine that.)

:D That particular little maple is a dwarf variety, and it's getting on in years too. It must be at least 20 years old. I like it a lot because it looks so cuddly. Of course it isn't but I still like the look of it.
