Wow Sherry--nice Monarchs again. You always have the nicest pics of these when they are around in your garden. The orange goes well with the purple of the Buddleja, don't you think?

Great photos! Monarchs are so beautiful. I read recently that a huge number of Monarchs died in Mexico this past winter. Something about the weather if I remember... Anyway, I am very pleased to see yours and when I see them here. Those are the tough ones!
Oh, Sherry, I was so glad to see your Monarch photos! We are awaiting the migration through Texas, and won't see them for a few weeks. Your photos are wonderful. I hope I can reciprocate with a few pictures of Monarchs on our milkweed. Kay, yes, there was a big die-off of Monarchs in Mexico. A cold snap in the mountains where they overwinter killed many, and then of course there is the problem of loss of habitat. Progress is being made, however, in reserving areas for the Monarchs and stopping tree-cutting. If anyone is interested in watching the Monarch migration, seeing where monitoring sites are in your state, and generally learning more about these magnificent butterflies, the U. of Minnesota sponsors the Monarch Larva Monitoring Project www.mlmp.org and you can sign up and help if you want! Our farm is the Texas site between Dallas and Austin.
Right before dark I was looking for caterpillars (I think they are done because we have had some cold nights) and to my surprise I had a beautiful Monarch that hadn't been out of the chrysalis (still wet wings) very long..when I checked this morning I couldn't find him so hopefully he is eating and getting ready for the trip south.
I am happy to say the Monarch caterpillars are back and on my swamp weed plant.....soon it should be full of them. :-D
