Our county has had a drive on for the past 5 years to raise money for a Veterans Memorial Monument. It only took 5 years to raise the $560,000 for it. Yesterday was Armed forces Day and we held the dedication ceremony for it. The local American legion Post that I belong to ended up donating over $16,000 for it. They were expecting about 1300 people for the ceremony and had an estimated 4000. I couldn't get very many pics because of the number of people that were there. I did get this one, right after the unveiling of it. I am going back in this morning to get some better pics. On the back of the monument is a listing of the names of people who gave their lives to the Wars from the War of 1812 to the current War in Iraq. These are people just from our county. The biggest listing is from the Civil War with over 600 names.
What a proud accomplishment and time, for your county, and all the families of lost service men !! Tom
Great monument Capt. Many of us forget how many lives have been lost for us to have the freedoms that we enjoy. This serves as a good reminder.
I'm glad the money was raised for the monument CK as all those brave lads and lasses who gave their lives should definately be remembered by future generations.
Thats a wonderful Monument for our brave solders who died for their country and all of us.I salute them all.
