what am i doing wrong?? my chilli flowers came out lovely over the past couple of weeks and just like last year they are falling off along with the stork, leaving me fruitless. do they not favour being re-potted?? is there any feed i should be giving them? is my conservatory too hot for them?? heeeeeelppp! :-?
think i've found the answer. apparently this happens to the flowers that haven't been pollinated. any advice on how best to help the pollination process??
Hi Luke, Peppers are considered "perfect flowers", meaning they do not need a pollinator. All you need to do is tap the plant or flower a little. The pollen is inside of the flower it just needs a bit if movement to make it drop onto the pistil of the flower. Insects do help pollinate but they really only need the movement to make it set fruit. Try this and see if it helps. Carolyn
Bump them gently. Or even a fan in the conservatory. Something to make the perfect bloom move (that will shake pollen around).
Ive had this problem in the past, so long as the plant appears healthy and disease free, just give them a gentle knock. I often have lots to do so use a soft paintbrush to dab around them. Im pretty sure as the previous posters have mentioned, it'll be fine
Try using a paintbrush to knock them around gently, it doesnt take much but be careful not to be too forceful and damage them.
